Auditions

Thank you for your interest in auditions at Downriver Actors Guild.  We look forward to the opportunity to work with you.  There are some general guidelines regarding auditions that will be helpful to both the individuals auditioning and the casting committee.

 

  • Unless noted in the announcement, auditions will be held at the 2nd St. Performing Arts Center – 1123 2nd St. Wyandotte, MI 48192

  • If cast in a production, a participation fee and volunteer hours are required. 

  • Specific audition information can be found in the audition announcement below and on the show's audition page.

  • Please understand that we do not always callback everyone that we intend to cast, only from those whom which we need to see more.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a dark musical thriller set in Victorian London about a barber, Sweeney Todd, who returns from exile determined to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life and separated him from his family. As Todd reestablishes himself in the city, he becomes increasingly consumed by his desire for vengeance. Meanwhile, a young sailor named Anthony Hope falls in love with Johanna Barker, Todd's daughter, who is being kept under the control of the very judge Todd despises. Anthony's efforts to rescue Johanna provide a hopeful counterpoint to Todd's darker path. The musical explores themes of love, revenge, justice, and the tragic consequences of obsession.

Starmites is a sci-fi rock musical about a shy teenager named Eleanor who escapes into a comic-book universe she created. In that fantasy world, she becomes “Spacepunk,” a confident heroine allied with a rebel group called the Starmites, who are fighting against a tyrannical villain known as Shak Graa. As Eleanor navigates this imagined galaxy, the boundaries between her real life and fantasy begin to blur, forcing her to confront her fears and insecurities. Through her journey, she discovers inner strength, self-worth, and the courage to stand up for herself in reality. Ultimately, the story celebrates imagination as a powerful tool for personal growth and transformation.

Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill: The Musical is an exhilarating new musical inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette's seminal album of the same name. The Healys appear to be a picture-perfect suburban family, but looks can be deceiving. When the cracks beneath the surface begin to show, they must choose between maintaining the status quo or facing harsh truths about themselves, their community and the world around them.
Mary Jane Healy is a high-achieving homemaker who will do anything for her family, including their adopted African American daughter Frankie, who is struggling to find her place in their lily-white community. But when the Healys’ lives begin to unravel, Mary Jane’s drive to keep her family together threatens to break them apart.

Daniel's Husband is a contemporary drama about a long-term married gay couple, Daniel and Mitchell, whose relationship is tested by a sudden medical crisis. After Daniel collapses from a brain aneurysm and falls into a coma, Mitchell discovers that, despite their 17-year partnership, he has no legal authority to make medical decisions on Daniel’s behalf. As Daniel’s estranged mother arrives and assumes control, long-simmering tensions about commitment, marriage, and emotional vulnerability come to the surface. Through flashbacks, the play reveals the couple’s deep love as well as Daniel’s reluctance to legally marry, which now carries painful consequences. The story ultimately explores themes of marriage equality, family, and the profound importance of legally and emotionally affirming one’s commitment to the person you love.
